Military member fatally shot during family visit in Michigan

A 23-year-old active duty member of the U.S. military has been shot and killed while visiting family for the holidays in Berrien County.

It happened around 11 p.m. on on Monday, Dec. 31.

Officers from St. Joseph Township Police Department were called to the 2000 block of Colfax Avenue regarding a shooting incident. Upon arrival on scene, officers found a man, identified as Tyrone Hassell III, 23, who appeared to be gravely injured, with multiple gunshot wounds.

Hassell was treated at the scene and taken to Spectrum Lakeland Hospital, where he died.

Police did not say in which branch of the military Hassell served.
