Garbage collection suspended in South Bend, Mishawaka, Elkhart during Wind Chill Warning

Besides fewer passengers on the roads, there are no garbage trucks en route to homes, either.

The cities of South Bend, Mishawaka and Elkhart announced suspended trash pick up for Wednesday, Jan. 30, and Thursday, Jan. 31, due to the extreme cold.

In South Bend, Wednesday customers can expect pick up on Friday. Thursday customers can expect pick up on Saturday.

In Mishawaka, trash that is normally picked up on Wednesday or Thursday will take place on Saturday. Friday’s trash pick up will remain on schedule. Recycling crews will double up next week in Mishawaka, as well.

Borden Waste-Away, which is Elkhart’s contracted trash removal company, has also suspended service on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday’s trash pick-up will take place as usual. Wednesday and Thursday routes will be serviced on Saturday. Recycling is cancelled for the week. Normal recycling routes will resume next week.
