A water main break has prompted a boil water advisory for all of Dowagiac.

The city says residents should boil water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking or brushing teeth. The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

State rules require two negative water tests, taken 24 hours apart, before it can be lifted. The city says that process will take at least 48 hours.
