WHITING, Ind. (AP) — Energy giant BP says it doesn’t have a timeline for repairs to a crude distillation unit that shut down after a fire at its Indiana refinery.

A fire on Saturday, Feb. 2, caused a malfunction to the unit at BP’s Whiting Refinery along Lake Michigan in northwest Indiana. The unit helps transform crude oil into gasoline and other fuels. It operates at a rate of 75,000 barrels per day. BP still is operating two other crude distillation units at the 430,000-barrel-per-day refinery. BP didn’t comment on how the temporary shutdown would affect production.

The refinery is the largest in the Midwest and supplies gasoline to seven states. It produces 10 million gallons of gasoline, 3.5 million gallons of diesel and 1.7 million gallons of jet fuel a day.
