A Michigan State Police Trooper at the Niles Post is facing a felony embezzlement charge.

Jesse Binns has been arraigned in Cass County District Court on the charge, which dates back to his time as an assistant chief at the Cass Central fire department.

The charge is for embezzlement of more than $1,000 but less than $20,000 from a nonprofit or charitable organization, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

The Michigan Attorney General received the report last month to determine charges.

Binns was removed from fire duty in September and suspended without pay from the State Police in September, as well. That suspension is ongoing until the outcome of his criminal case.
