St. Joseph County 911 Center suffers radio outage

(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)

Tuesday morning the St. Joseph County Public Safety 911 Center reported an outage for their primary radio system.

Officials say a radio microwave antenna at their New Carlisle site experienced a “fade” at 4 a.m. Tuesday morning. State officials, who maintain the equipment, say it was caused by the weather change. Radio coverage for the 911 Center was sporadic until 7 a.m. according to South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski.

There were no reported delays in dispatching, thanks to police and fire units being extra-diligent to monitor communications.
