Police investigating shooting death on Sherman Street in Elkhart

A 25-year-old Elkhart man was shot to death early Sunday morning and police are still searching for the suspect.

The shooting happened around 1:35 a.m. on Sunday, May 26, in front of a home in the 300 block of Sherman Street in Elkhart.

The victim, Ishmael Porter, 25, was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where he died.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was called in to take over the investigation.
