The person killed in the multi-vehicle crash on the U.S. 20 bypass has been identified.

John Ricker, 49, of South Bend, was in a black Mazda sedan that was struck by a westbound semi near the Elm Road exit around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30.

The force of that crash caused Ricker’s car to then crash into an SUV. Four vehicles, in all, were involved in the chain reaction crash.

A 24-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment of a concussion. Two others received minor injuries.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team is still investigating the cause of the crash. They say drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors.
