The PGA has responded to the threat by Benton Harbor’s Mayor about cancelling the Senior Championship if the high school closed.

Last week, Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad said the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship would not take place in the city if the state closed the struggling Benton Harbor High School.

PGA officials say they are committed to Benton Harbor and Michigan’s Southwest community, and look forward to presenting the tournament at Harbor Shores “in 2020 and beyond.”

City officials are speaking in Lansing this week, attempting to save the school and draw attention to the reasons it should remain open in the community.
