South Shore rail lane to benefit from federal grant

Senator Todd Young of Indiana announced Friday that the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad will receive a $2.83 million dollar grant.

The Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation will be used to revitalize the rail infrastructure between Michigan City and LaPorte.

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao says these investments “will benefit surrounding communities, make grade crossings safer, and improve service reliability.”
