It turns out St. Joseph County was hit by, not one, but two tornadoes on Sunday night, June 23.

This particular tornado was rated an EF-0 by the National Weather Service. It touched down at the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Hawthorne Trail.

The twister had wind speeds of 65 to 70 miles per hour, was about 10 yards wide and on the ground for a half-mile.

A resident caught outside when the twister hit had to hold on to a beam in order not to be swept up. However, a small dog was picked up off the ground by the wind and carried several feet before being placed back on the ground. Luckily, the dog was not injured, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

The other tornado was the EF-2 that struck the Growing Kids Learning Center and Irish Hills Apartments.
