The City of Mishawaka is looking to buy the Liberty Mutual building downtown.

The South Bend Tribune reports that the city hopes to move the City Hall there, as well as the Police Department and the business office of Mishawaka Utilities.

Liberty Mutual announced their intention to move out of the site at the corner of Lincoln Way and Main back in February.

On Wednesday, Mayor Dave Wood said he has signed a letter of understanding to purchase the building for 2 point 3-5 million dollars. Liberty Mutual had originally been asking for 5 point 6 million.

If the purchase is successful the city could take possession in March, and spend another 14 million or more to renovate the building for their needs, a process that would likely take a year.
