The fundraising race for one of the two Senate seats from Michigan is heating up.

Republican challenger John James, who entered the race three weeks ago, has raised $1.5 million so far.

But that amount trails the fundraising efforts of incumbent Democrat Gary Peters. His campaign announced this week that he has raised $2.4 million in the second quarter. That’s the biggest off-year quarterly haul for a US Senate candidate in the state. Eighty percent of those contributions are said to have been $50 or less.

James is challenging Peters after failing to unseat Senator Debbie Stabenow in 2018, despite an endorsement from President Trump.
