Retirement approved for Elkhart Police detective awaiting sentencing

The Police Merit Commission has officially approved the retirement for an Elkhart Police detective currently awaiting sentencing.

Scott Hupp pleaded guilty to one count of Residential Breaking and Entertaining and two counts of Harassment by Means of a Telephone last Thursday, Sept. 19.

ABC 57 reports the commission approved Hupp’s retirement Monday. The 20-year veteran’s last day with the department was July 31, the day he applied for a pension.

Hupp is scheduled to be sentenced on November 22.
