Homeowner discovers crashed SUV, South Bend man dead from wreck

A South Bend man was killed after driving off U.S. 20 in New Carlisle.

A homeowner living in the 29000 block of U.S. 20 called police were called around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, after finding a Ford Escape that had crashed in their yard near a horse trailer.

Officers determined the driver, Horacio Reyes-Miramontes, 32, had left the roadway near a curved section of the highway, then rolled-over multiple times traveling another 300 feet through a field, before coming to a rest against the horse trailer.

Reyes-Miramonte was ejected from the back of the vehicle and was found lying approximately 60 feet beyond the SUV

Reyes-Miramotes attended a family event in LaPorte county Saturday evening and was traveling alone on his way back to South Bend during the early hours of Sunday morning.

St. Joseph County Police is handling the investigation. A toxicology test will be conducted.
