“Suspicious device” at Elkhart County Landfill Actually an Antique

There is more information on the “suspicious device” that was found in the Elkhart County landfill on Thursday.

Elkhart County officers arrived to the landfill around 9 a.m October 24th. after an employee reported finding an item that resembled a grenade. The Elkhart City EOD team investigated and determined there was no direct threat to the public.

An employee tells us that the device in question was actually an antique M7 grenade that attaches to M1 Garand style rifles. The M1 Garand is popularly depicted in war films for its use during WWII and subsequent Southeast Asian conflicts.
