Mayor Meer to Have Charges Heard in Different County

The case won’t get a special prosecutor but the charges against current Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer will be heard in a different county.

Meer is facing felony charges of intimidation and misconduct, those stem from an incident with the city’s police chief after his step son was arrested. He had claimed that an informant told him that his son was targeted, but a state investigation turned up no evidence that happened.

Meer was up for re-election last week and lost. His case is going to be heard in neighboring Porter County.
