South Bend Cubs to honor the Latin community with a nod to the past

South Bend baseball fans will get an opportunity to cheer for The Cursed Goats for a few days next year.

“Los Cabritos Maldichos” will be the name of the Midwest League Champion South Bend Cubs for five games of the 2020 season. It’s part of Minor Legaue Baseball’s Copa de la Diversion outreach program for the Latin community.

The program, which began this year, will see 92 minor league clubs put on new jerseys and names to celebrate diversity in the league.

South Bend’s name and logo is an homage to the nearly 70-year “curse of the Billy Goat” that plagued the team’s parent club in Chicago.

The team will wear them for the first time in May.
