Police: Woman killed after driver fell asleep at wheel, struck her head-on on State Road 120

A LaGrange County woman lost her life in a two-vehicle crash caused by a driver who police say fell asleep at the wheel.

Jason Yoder, 34, of Millersburg crossed the center line on State Road 120 and struck another vehicle head-on, killing the other driver, Tonya Yoder, 29, of Howe.

The collision happened around 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

The force of the crash caused the woman’s car to go airborne, flip and roll several times. She died at the scene.

A Shipshewana man who was riding in her car was taken to a Parkview LaGrange Hospital for treatment.

According to LaGrange County Sheriff’s investigators, Jason Yoder admitted to police he fell asleep while driving.

He had to be extricated from his vehicle.

He suffered just minor injuries and was cited for driving left-of-center.
