A Goshen man was arrested for drunken driving after crashing his vehicle into two power poles and a truck belonging to an off-duty officer.

The collision happened around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, in the area of County Road 115 and County Road 18 in Goshen.

The suspect, Cesar Ortega-Olvera, 23, allegedly collided with two utility poles bringing them down. He then smashed into a truck in the driveway of the officer’s home, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

The utility poles damaged two other vehicles and the home when they came down, one of the vehicles being a marked Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

The off-duty officer approached Ortega-Olvera who resisted and fought with him.

On duty officers arrived and attempted to take him into custody.

Ortega-Olvera took off on foot and the officers chased him and eventually took him into custody.

He was found to be intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .207, and was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of a crash, operating without being never licensed and having no insurance with a prior conviction.

The vehicles damaged in the crash were: 2018 Dodge Ram truck, 2012 Kia Serento and a 2017 Dodge Charger, which was the Sheriff’s vehicle.

The home received damage to the driveway, garage door and walls from the utility poles.
