A bill that would limit public access to Lake Michigan’s shoreline is being considered by Indiana’s legislature.

The house bill would limit public access to beaches. Its author says the bill would only affect around 4% of the land in question and is designed to protect the rights of homeowners. Opponents say the land is part of a public waterway, and everyone should be able to enjoy the entire beach area along the lake in Indiana.

The Hoosier State enjoys 54 miles of shoreline along Lake Michigan.
