Michigan considering Toll Roads to help infrastructure

Michigan is considering instituting a Toll Road to help pay for it’s crumbling roads.

It’s one of the solutions being looked at to help pay for infrastructure issues across the state. A feasibility study is underway to consider the pros and cons of adding tolls to certain highways or bridges in the state.

A federal law prohibits states from turning federal highways into toll roads, but the state senator who called for the study says there are a few ways around that through various federal programs.

MDOT can explore the possibilities if the feasibility study is approved by the state legislature.
