More than 2 million dollars in grants will reportedly allow FEMA and St. Joseph County to buy out homes in a repeatedly flooded neighborhood.

The St. Joseph County Division of Public Works was approved for the funding, which will be used to fund the first part of the “Voluntary Floodplain Home Buyout Program.”

WSBT reports 14 residences in the Jewell Woods neighborhood, which was devastated by flooding in 2016 and 2018, will be purchased and demolished.
