UPDATE: Officials confirm that 911 services have been restored after an upgrade to Michigan’s 911 emergency system caused a technical issue which resulted in early morning outages across the state.

State police say a fiber optic line was being updated about 2:30 a.m. Friday when the system crashed and remained down for several hours. It was restored about 7 a.m.

Many county dispatch centers, including Cass County, used non-emergency lines as backup.

State police Lt. Michael Shaw says downtown Detroit and some other dispatch centers did not experience an outage because they use copper lines instead of fiber optic lines.

A heads up for residents in Cass County as 911 services are currently down. If you need emergency services you are urged to either text 911 or call the non emergency line at (269) 445-1560.

There has been no update on when services may be back up but about 40 other Michigan counties have been affected by a glitch during a statewide system update. No other counties in our area seem to be affected.
