Wife arrested in 15 year old in North Liberty cold case murder

The arrest was made Thursday and charges have already been filed against 68-year-old Therese Rice in connection to the death of Bill Rice, back in January 2005.

On the day of Bill Rice’s purported murder she called 9-1-1 and told dispatchers she found her husband in the driveway of their North Liberty home and that he must have suffered a heart attack. However police discovered he was shot.

It wasn’t until 2016 that investigators received tips that Therese may have been responsible for his death.

Below is the release from St. Joseph County Police:

St. Joseph County- Today the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against
Therese A. Rice, 68, in a 2005 cold case homicide. She is charged with Murder in the
January 24, 2005 shooting death of her husband, 57 year old Bill Rice, on St. Rd 4, North
Liberty.

Probable cause was found and an arrest warrant ordered issued. Defendant was ordered
held without bond. She was arrested on the warrant in this cause number and booked this
afternoon into the St. Joseph County Jail, where she remains in custody. She is scheduled
to appear before a St. Joseph County Superior Court Magistrate tomorrow, May 22nd, at
1:00 p.m. for her arraignment.

The sentencing range for Murder is 45 to 65 years.
