Boy, 3, hospitalized after being struck by vehicle in Elkhart

A 3-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was struck by a vehicle in Elkhart.

The collision happened around 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, in the 2000 block of Prairie Street.

The toddler ran across the street and was struck by a black Mercedes traveling southbound, according to Elkhart Police.

The child was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with serious injuries. The child was then flown to the Riley’s Children’s Hospital in Fort Wayne due to the extent of his injuries.

The 2000 block of Prairie Street was closed for several hours.
