Seven people were hurt after a house explosion in northwest Indiana.

The explosion happened at around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sep. 10, in Porter.

Firefighters were called to a home on North First Street, where they found fire and heavy damage, Porter Fire Chief Jay Craig told NBC 5 in Chicago.

A three-year-old girl and a woman were trapped inside the house and were pulled free by a group that included bystanders.

The three-year-old was flown to a children’s hospital in Chicago. Six other people were taken to area hospitals.

The Indiana Fire Marshal says the home is a “total loss.”
