Below is an update from St. Jospeh County Police:

During a shootout off Lilac Road yesterday, SJCPD K9 Luna suffered a gunshot wound to her inner right thigh area. After being shot, she was rushed to Roseland Animal Hospital and stabilized for transport to a 24 hour emergency clinic where she remains at this time. The bullet missed her leg bone but hit a vein. Doctors do not believe they will remove the bullet.

Luna has been cleared to come home this afternoon. She lost a lot of blood and doctors will continue to check her blood every 24 to determine if a blood transfusion will be required. Luna is expected to survive and recover. It will be a long recovery. At this time doctors do not know if she will be able to return to service with the department or not.
County Police extend their gratitude for their quick efforts to the Vets and staff at both Roseland Animal Hospital and North Central Veterinary Emergency Center in Westville Indiana.

K-9 Luna began her career with Sgt. Parmelee and the SJCPD in January of 2020. After successfully completing their training, K-9 Luna and Sgt. Parmelee began working the midnight road patrol.  K-9 Luna and Sgt. Parmelee have already been involved in several apprehensions since their short time on the midnight road patrol.

A GoFundMe page has been established to cover all Veterinary and medical costs for Luna and any remaining funds will go towards the SJCPD K-9 fund with FOP #155.
