SB Cubs invited to play 2021 as the High Single-A Cubs affiliate

(Tommie Lee/95.3 MNC)

The South Bend Cubs have been invited to be the High Single-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs in 2021.

Minor League Baseball underwent contraction in the non-existent 2020 season, as teams and affiliations dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Single-A baseball teams have been reduced to two levels: High and Low. The South Bend Cubs have been asked to be the High Single-A team in the Cubs organization, with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans moving down from Class-A Advanced to Low Single-A.

The team in Eugene, Oregon is no longer part of the structure.

A similar offer has been made to the Fort Wayne Tin Caps by the Padres, which would make them the High Single-A affiliate for San Diego.
