Police pursuit ends with crash in Mishawaka Sunday

A police pursuit ended with a car crash and shots fired in Mishawaka Sunday.

It began when an officer noticed a vehicle driving near the intersection of Main and Indian Lakes that matched the description of a vehicle linked to a homicide.

The officer checked the license plate, noticed it was reported stolen and attempted a traffic stop.

Instead of stopping, the vehicle fled and led the officer on a pursuit that ended near Main and Lawrence streets when the suspect vehicle rear-ended an SUV.

The driver and a small child in the SUV were released from the scene with minor injuries.

Meantime, the suspect vehicle was disabled from the crash and a struggle ensued with the driver and an officer, during which one of the officer’s weapons discharged. No one was injured.

Police report the suspect vehicle was found not to be the vehicle, or suspect, sought in the murder investigation. Though, the suspect vehicle was reported stolen.

Both the driver and passenger were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries sustained in the crash.
