Drivers of stolen vehicles lead police on chase in Berrien County Monday

Two people were arrested after a police pursuit in Berrien County early Monday morning.

Just before 2 a.m., police observed two vehicles driving around the Tyler Automotive parking lot on S. 11th Street.

Since it was outside of normal business hours, officers attempted a traffic stop on the two vehicles, but both fled the parking lot and led police on a short chase.

Police were only able to pursue one of the vehicles, which ultimately pulled over at the 11th Street and Hickory Street intersection.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from South Bend, was arrested and booked in the Berrien County jail on charges of Possession/Concealing a Stolen Vehicle and Fleeing and Eluding.

The passenger, an 18-year-old woman from South Bend, was also arrested on a Possession/Concealing a Stolen Vehicle charge. Police learned the woman also had valid arrest warrants out of both Cass County and Kent County, Michigan.

The second vehicle that fled the scene is believed to have been stolen from Tyler Automotive.
