Police: Suspected drunk driver arrested after being caught going double the speed limit

A driver caught driving twice the speed limit on State Road 130 denied being drunk.

Porter County police say around 12:25 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16,  an officer spotted a car traveling 70 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The officer stopped the car near County Road 475 West. The driver, Jessie James, 47, had speech so slurred the officer could barely understand him.

James was then taken to a hospital for a blood draw, which showed a BAC of 0.41 — more than five times the legal limit of 0.08.

However, when told this, James denied being drunk, saying if he was a 0.41, he would not even be alive.

Regardless, James faces a felony DUI.
