Man in critical condition after being arrested in St. Joseph County

A man taken into custody for causing problems at the fire station at Bittersweet and Anderson Roads in Granger is in critical condition in the hospital after having a medical emergency.

St. Joseph County Police were called to the fire station around 8 p.m. on Monday, April 19, where they made contact with 44-year-old Brian DeBeck.

After a brief struggle, police arrested DeBeck for resisting law enforcement.

He was taken to the County Jail where he continued to struggle with officers. That when he began to show signs of having a medical emergency.

Medics were called and DeBeck was taken to Memorial Hospital.

The Metro Homicide Unit is reviewing in-car camera video, jail video, and conducting witness interviews.
