The St. Joseph County Common Council overrode the commissioners’ veto of a mask ordinance on Friday.

The special meeting Friday saw the Council override the veto of the mask-related ordinance in order to provide more time for the county’s vaccination totals to rise.

The move extends the expiration date of an ordinance that allows the county to fine businesses if their employees don’t mask up.

The council originally voted on April 13 to extend the mandate through May 27. The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners vetoed the mask mandate a week later. Now, that’s been overridden.
