Michigan’s Liquor Control Commission is urging everyone to have a safe and sober summer.

They note that the state’s 19,000 liquor licensees are excited to have bars, restaurants, hotels, distilleries and wineries open once again to offer up a taste of pure Michigan, according to WSJM.

But alcohol contributes at least 20% of all adult deaths due to drowning each year, a number that’s as high as 41% for young adults aged 15 to 29.

The commission is promoting Operation Dry Water during the upcoming 4th of July weekend in the hopes of avoiding the traditional rise in drinking and boating, and deadly incidents.
