South Bend looking for a new bike and scooter program for the city

(Caleigh Bougeois/ABC 57)

The City of South Bend is looking for a replacement company to provide bikes and scooters this summer like it had with Lime Bike.

The city was forced to stop negotiating with with the a new e-share company due to the pandemic, just as preparations were underway to launch a new program early last year. The South Bend Tribune reports that almost a year-and-a-half later, as infection rates continue dropping, the city is interested in getting scooters and electric-assist bicycles back on the streets this summer.

A finalist has supposedly been selected from three companies that had been approached for the job.

The city is hopeful that the next company will do a better job of keeping the bikes and scooters in the more busy parts of South Bend.
