Off-duty St. Joseph County officer hits bicyclist at Capitol Ave. & Lincoln Way East

An investigation is underway after an off-duty St. Joseph County Police Officer struck a bicyclist.

Mishawaka Police were called around 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, to the collision scene in the area of Capitol Avenue and Lincoln Way East.

The off-duty officer, Kurt Vanlandingham, was traveling southbound on Capitol at the intersection, when investigators say he struck the bicyclist, who was also traveling southbound.

The officer cooperated with investigators on scene.

The 43-year-old bicyclist was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team is leading the investigation.
