The initial call came in as a water rescue, with a car seen sinking in the St. Joseph River.

It happened just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday, July 20, on the water at Darden Road and Riverside Drive.

Rescue crews deployed boats and found the vehicle, but nobody inside.

It’s believed the car went into the water near the boat launch.
