Non-essential travel from Canada remains restricted, despite Canadian vaccination rates besting those in the U.S.

The Department of Homeland Security doubled down on its restrictions earlier this week on non-essential travel from Canada, based on health concerns.

Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told the Detroit Free Press on Tuesday that he is aware of the impact on families and businesses in Michigan, New York, and elsewhere.

Members of Congress have warned that the continued restrictions on the northern border are having a serious impact on tourism and other businesses, and many in both parties are questioning why the restrictions are necessary given that a larger percentage of Canadians are vaccinated than Americans.

The current restrictions are in place through at least August 21.
