After a week of blazing hot weather, storms, power outages and a return to school for most, it’s time to have some fun.

The Thor Industries Elkhart Riverwalk Grand Prix returns Friday afternoon and Saturday with go-kart racing, live music on the Central Green, a cornhole contest, food and other family-friendly fun.

Racing begins with the Mayor Challenge, pitting Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson against other local mayors. At 5:30, the grand prix begins for registered racers.

The track goes along Waterfall Drive, Elkhart Avenue, Nibco Parkway and Jackson Boulevard, crossing the Elkhart River twice.

The Beer Garden opens at 6 and music begins at 8. The cornhole tourney starts Saturday morning.

There’s a first-responders race, a celebrity race and, then, the main races starting a 4 o’clock. Live bands with headliner Clayton Anderson take you into the evening hours.

The event ends with fireworks at 10 o’clock.

The Elkhart Farmers Market will move, on Saturday, to Lundquist-Bicentennial Park due to the Grand Prix. Vendors will be placed along the park’s sidewalks for easy access. The market will still feature many favorite vendors including farmers, bakers, handcrafted items, and more.
