Speed is believed to be a factor in a crash that claimed the life of a 24-year-old South Bend man. Police responded to a single vehicle crash just after 12 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15, at Cleveland Road and Bittersweet Road.

First responders found the vehicle smashed against a power pole with the driver, Zachery Grenert, 24, trapped inside.

Medics attempted life-saving measures on scene, but were unsuccessful.

Witnesses told officers the vehicle hit the roundabout before crashing into the pole.

I drove at times way too fast as a teenager. This is a tragedy as it seems he missed the roundabout and was probably launched from it. Perhaps put reflectors to warn folks about these roundabouts at night will prevent deaths

Roundabouts are a stupid idea, especially in places with lots of seasonal snow and ice (you know, like this place).

They are significantly more expensive than traffic lights, and they cause a lot more wear and tear on your car’s tires and suspension.

Yet another liberal fad that has to be undone when sanity takes over!
