Elkhart County Commissioners table decision on solar project proposal until September

Elkhart County Commissioners have voted to table the final decision on a proposed solar project until next month.

In a unanimous decision the commissioners decided on Monday to wait until September to vote on the proposal, which would create a renewable energy plant on 850 acres of land just south of Millersburg.

Commission President Suzie Weirick said the group is “keenly aware” of those who are in support of the plan, and those who aren’t. She says making decisions that balance the needs of individuals, property rights, and the county’s best interest is never easy.

Elkhart County Commissioners will consider all aspects of the project before coming to a final vote in September.
