Woman, 53, killed in crash involving vehicle, two motorcycles near U.S. 20 bypass

The woman killed when the motorcycle she was operating was hit by a vehicle has been identified as Deborah Holmes, 53, of Elkhart.

The collision happened around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, Sep. 2.

Officers were sent to were dispatched to South Main Street and the U.S. 20 bypass in Elkhart where they say a vehicle traveling northbound on South Main Street turned left to go east on the bypass.

As the vehicle made the turn, it collided with two motorcycles, which were traveling
southbound on South Main Street.

The vehicle was operated by a 24-year-old man who was not injured.

The first motorcycle was operated by a 53-year-old woman who was transported to the hospital and later died as a result of her injuries.

The second motorcycle was operated by a 53-year-old man who was transported to the
hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The case remains under investigation.
