Grandmother, aunt who took teen to Florida embroiled in custody feud

The two people who took a teenage girl to Florida in the middle of a custody battle in northern Indiana are finally back in Indiana.

Elizabeth Sands and Allissa Sands are Aaliyah Ramirez’s grandmother and aunt. Both were arrested in Florida where Ramirez was found safe after having gone missing for months earlier this year.

Aaliyah’s father Anthony Ramirez was recently was granted full custody of her.

He told investigators that he suspected form the beginning that the two women took the teenager to Florida — in a plan to reunite her with her boyfriend.
