Whitmer visits Benton Harbor to talk about the water emergency

(Tommie Lee)

Governor Whitmer was in Benton Harbor on Tuesday to talk with local leaders about the water situation.

She met with residents of the community as well and discussed the ongoing effort to replace the lead water lines that lead to some homes in the community.

WSJM reports that Whitmer underscored her recent Executive Directive that aims federal, state and local resources at the problem as a united front. She said her administration seeks to replace “100%” of the lead service lines in the city in the next 18 months, and called on the State Legislature to fully fund the effort with an $11 million investment.
