The Mayor of Benton Harbor is now facing a recall effort.

The Berrien County Clerk’s Office tells WSJM that Mayor Marcus Muhammad is being targeted for recall by resident Quacy Roberts, who submitted petition language on Tuesday. Roberts says the mayor should be recalled for “failing to tell the residents of Benton Harbor that the water was contaminated with lead.”

City leaders first raised the alarm roughly three years ago and have addressed the issue on numerous occasions. The Berrien County Election Commission will hold a hearing to determine if the language in the petition is sufficient for further proceedings.
