Benton Harbor needs volunteers to help distribute water

Like many across the country, the Benton Harbor water distribution system is more than 100 years old. (Adobe Stock)

Benton Harbor needs volunteers to help distribute safe water to residents hardest hit by the lead pipe situation there.

More than a hundred cars were lined up before noon yesterday at Abundant Life Church, according to WSBT. Each was there to pick up cases of water, but only eight volunteers were on hand for the effort. And the need is expected to grow, with two distribution sites opening yesterday in Benton Harbor and more expected.

At least 18 to 20 volunteers will be needed at each site at all times to handle the flow of cases of water.

Those interested in helping can either register at the United Way’s website or just show up at the sites. They’ll find a spot where you can help.
