An offender was captured in Gary after he walked away from the South Bend Community Re-Entry Center.

Eric Johnson, 28, was found to be missing during the facility’s 2 a.m. count on Wednesday, Dec. 8.

A search with officers from the Parole Division, as well as the Gary Police Department, began immediately.

He was found at a relative’s house just about 7 hours later.

Officers say Johnson tried to flee by jumping out a window, but was found by shortly after.

Joshnson was due to be released in April. The South Bend Community Re-Entry Center is a low-level, minimum security facility where offenders are housed, but are allowed to leave for work.
