Starke County woman arrested for alleged drunk driving after rear-ending police car

Police arrested a 20-year-old Starke County woman after she rear-ended a police car while driving drunk.

Ashley Kretchmer, of North Judson, was driving on I-80/I-94 at around 11 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, when she hit a Lake Station police car from behind, according to Indiana State Police.

Kretchmer and the police officer pulled onto the shoulder and state troopers from the Lowell Post were called to take a crash report.

During their investigation, the troopers determined that Kretchmer had been drinking. After being given field sobriety tests, Kretchmer was taken to the Lake County Jail for a chemical test for intoxication. She registered a .17% B.A.C. — more than twice the legal limit.

Kretchmer faces preliminary charges of drunk driving and minor consumption of an alcoholic beverage.
