South Bend Police have arrested a suspected catalytic converter thief.

Officers were sent to the 400 block of College Street, Saturday, after a caller said they saw somebody was stealing a converter.

The suspect vehicle was located soon after. Michael Tobar was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant.

A search of his vehicle turned up the stolen converter, reciprocating saws, blades and gloves.

Investigators say Tobar allegedly confessed to stealing the converter.

Police are looking into whether he may have been involved in similar thefts.
